:: B I O G R A P H Y :: After matriculating in 1980, I obtained a Higher Diploma in Education from Wits University/Johannesburg College of Education. I taught matric Maths and Science in schools in Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal. During this time I studied a BSc degree through UNISA majoring in Psychology. This was followed by two honours degrees in education, one specialising in special needs education and the other in guidance and counselling. I broadened my teaching experience to include children from pre-school to post matric, concentrating on the field of special needs. My masters degree was completed in the field Psychology of Education (UNISA) and my thesis was on the effects of a structured teaching method on maths anxiety and maths achievement. After completing my masters degree, I completed an internship with the Western Cape Education Department to fulfil HPCSA requirements for registration as an Educational Psychologist which resulted in the opening of my own private practice in Table View, Cape Town. The research for my Doctoral thesis, "The Neuropsychological profiles of learners with Asperger syndrome" has precipitated a specialist interest in meeting the challenges and educational needs of children not only with AS but also with autism and other developmental disorders. I have a keen interest in child neuropsychology. I am married with two sons, both of whom are studying Bachelors degrees and are both actively involved in sports as well as musical pursuits. |
